Lao Khao Thai White Whiskey, Teal Label.

Lao Khao Thai White Whiskey, Teal Label.
Smokey, charcoal and octane, the “relatively” premium teal label whiskey is all fire, but a smooth fire. Perfect to be paired with lychee and a lazy day in a Bangkok park.
Resiliency: 7/10 Think cooking on propane rather than coal.

Affordability: 9/10 It’s affordable alright.

Cannabis Pairability: 8/10 Refrain from blazing in the park but toke up a diesel strain later, you might as well fully commit.

Red Mountain EstateInle Lake, Shan State, Myanmar.

Sauvignon Blanc 2014 Dry

Holy floral! It’s so tropical, grapefruit and pineapple. It has a bit of funk both sweet yet sour all in the far back of the throat. It’s somewhere between a sweet pear and a sour Lychee, these vines have definitely got some sun.
Muscat Dry 2013

A light straw color with legs like mountains with an aroma of basil and apricot. A sweet herbal profile like watered down sweet lime juice. It’s tropical sweet drink time.
Red Shiraz-Tempranillo Dry 2013

A deep purple color, raspberry on the nose with a ton of alcohol. It has a tannic center and a sweet finish. Coupled with the alcohol level it has something like a brandy profile, with notes of blackberry and a sour herbal funk on the finish. + Lavender!
Late Harvest 2015

Smooth as lemonade on the pallet it has a bright citrus profile on both the pallet and the nose. It lingers on the tongue and has a long mouth feel yet somehow not a high alcohol content. Sweet sipping for the afternoon.
Pinot Noir 2013 Dry

Holy legs, it’s like scarlet Johnson in red lipstick driving a new honda. Nail polish on the nose, black and young. Not quite finished but as the vines age the leather profile of the wine will hopefully get more complex and deep. Very little tannin with a sour edge, like sour candy.
Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like the bottle has been open for a few days. It’s brisk, easy and has some residual sugar so enjoy a few glasses.

Resiliency: 6/10 The flavors are big and tropical. The vines don’t seem to get the cold needed for vibrant acidity.

Affordability: 9/10 This ain’t Napa Fo’ So’! 4000 Kyat for a tasting is a serious steal and there’s a gorgeous view.

Cannabis Pairabiltiy: 8/10 While the Red Mountain Estate isn’t somewhere you can openly blaze it up, take a bottle to go and pair it with some tropical strains.

Dopeness: 7.5/10 #wine

The Burmese Cigar. Aka the Cheroot

The Burmese Cigar. Aka the Cheroot
Wrapped in Shan state cheroot tree leaves with a corn filter. One lady can hand roll about five hundred cheroot cigars a day which are then vigorously smoked in all corners of Myanmar.

They have a green sweet smoke with a baking spice and floral tropical fruit flavor. Fairly full and heavy with a definite grip on the pallet. A great once in a lifetime experience, a unique mixture of Tobacco, Honey, Tamarind, Brown sugar, Banana Fruit, Rice Wine, Star Anis. And seriously, once in a lifetime.
Pair with a rich and bold Burmese stout like Black Shield.
Like oak milk with hints of smokey hazelnut it has big roast malt flavor, a slight bitterness and a weirdly sour finish.
Resiliency: 6/10 Buzzed off one.

Affordability: 7/10 Still Myanmar!

Cannabis Pairability: 5/10 Needs a good earthy Indica or a cheroot!

Ever Green fresh roast coffee and draught beer. Nyaung Shwe, Shan State, Myanmar.
Well that’s a strong Americano. Powerful deep notes with a profile of blueberry. Slightly over extracted but definitely sufficient octane levels for a day’s adventure on Inle Lake. They might need to practice pouring as well! Find on Yone Gyi street just down from the central market.

Sometimes you need a retreat from the dusty streets and this space is both cool and refreshing. Service is nice and the coffee is strong. It’s a little bit over-extracted but add a little sugar and you’re in buisness. #hsipaw #burma #myanmar #shanstate #burmesecoffee #tbt #coffee

Aythaya Rosé, 2014, Shiraz & Muscat Cuvée

Aythaya Rosé, 2014, Shiraz & Muscat Cuvée. Meikita Region, Shan State, Myanmar. 12.5%
Aroma of dried cherries. It has a really bright and sour profile that starts fresh then expands to a juicy finish. Sour cherry with cranberry and crackling bright autumn leaves it’s like rose hip tea and hibiscus. Very rich without sweet, acid without pucker. I think we’ve been starved for well executed wine and this is damn good. Pair this rosé with melon and prescuto for a brilliant day on Inle Lake.
Resiliency: 9/10 Why did I buy a mini bottle, I want more! Another glass please!

Affordability: 7/10 Definitely premium Burmese price but for the experience it’s worth every single Kyat.

Cannabis Pairability: 8/10 This strain is begging for a luscious and sweet melon strain pairing.

Moose Hard Apple Thai Cider.

Moose Hard Apple Cider.
A mixture of Pink Lady and Granny Smith tartness, the sweetness on the start ends with a Pucker and rich finish.
Produced by Siam Winery 5%.

Resiliency: 5/10 It’s so sweet, which is one of the main issues I have with some apple ciders. They tap me out after one.

Affordability: 5/10 Around 2$ which is fairly expensive in Thailand.

Cannabis Pairability: 8/10 The tart and sweet components grounded and accentuated by pairing with an earthy strain like White Widow.

Grand Royal Special Reserve Burmese Whiskey.

Grand Royal Special Reserve Whiskey.

Really very smooth with a slight and enjoyable throat warming. Vanilla and caramel sweetness with mellow tannic backing. I feel like Flory in the English Club, warm heat of the hot Burmese afternoon. Delicious.

43% Vol. Oak barrel aged, thank god it’s not just coloring!
Resiliency: 7/10 It’s smooth but still whiskey.

Affordability: 8/10 A middle shelf option but still at Burmese pricing.

Cannabis Pairability: 7/10 It would make a nice pairing with Pink Kush, a strain renowned for its vanilla notes and rich candy-like aroma.

Oak Barrel Passion Wine.

Oak Barrel Passion Wine. By Winner & Winner Winery, Anisakhan, Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar. 12%
Damn that’s sweet, but it does have a nice sour edge on the finish. Totally tastes like passion fruit. Ironically I don’t think there has been any oak barrel aging on this product and based on the label’s picture it might actually be guava wine.

It’s like the ultra ripe fermented fruit that all the gibbons love to find. Long finish, fairly clingy on the pallet but not rancid at all.
Here’s one of the best parts of Burmese fruit wines, direct quotes from the label ” We guarantee all our wine have added no artificial color, flavor or substituted alcohol and, this, suggested to drink our most hygienic beverages for your health moderately.” –
Resiliency: 6/10 It’s perfect as an apéritif.

Affordability: 7/10 A well executed enjoyable experience especially at 2800 Kyat, or like 2.30$

Cannabis Pairability: 8/10 The rich tropical notes in the wine would be easy to play off with a fruity tropical strain like pineapple.

Dopeness: 7/10

Myanmar Lager Beer

Myanmar Lager Beer
The ubiquitous brew of the country formerly know as Burma had an apple, pear, rice flavor as ephemeral as mist on a dusty morning. Also it tastes like roast peanut. It’s suprisingly carbonated for its small head and has a sweet caramel aroma.
Resiliency: 9/10 A sour bitter crispness on the finish cinches the beer as a quaffable favorite on hot Burmese Days.

Affordability: 6/10 More expensive yet comparable to other generic SE Asia lagers.

Cannabis Pairability: 8/10 Yup, it would cut some cotton mouth and taste better when paired with something bright flavored and wickedly potent like Jack the Ripper.
